Physical Therapy in Smithtown, NY

Most people who walk into our Smithtown office are somewhere between a flare-up and a decision about surgery. Physical therapy here is about getting a straight answer on what is driving the pain and whether loading the tissue properly will change it.

You do not need a referral to start

In New York you can start physical therapy without a doctor note. Call the office, describe what is going on, and we will book you an evaluation.

If a referral does turn out to be needed for your plan, we have medical staff in every office who can take care of it. You are not sent away to chase paperwork. We check your coverage before the first visit so the cost is never a surprise.

  • Call and describe the problem, no paperwork needed to ask
  • We run your benefits and tell you the visit cost
  • You are evaluated and treated on the same visit in most cases

What your first visit looks like

1

A real evaluation

Forty-five minutes with a licensed therapist. History, a movement screen and hands-on testing, so we can name what is driving the pain instead of guessing at it.

2

Treatment the same day

You leave having been treated and with two or three things to do at home. Not a printed sheet of twelve exercises you will never look at.

3

A plan with checkpoints

We agree what better looks like and when we reassess. If the plan is not moving you, we change it or send you to someone who can help.

Who you will see

Your evaluation and your follow-ups are with a licensed physical therapist, not handed off to an aide once the plan is written. Our Smithtown team works alongside the acupuncture and massage side of the practice, so if your case would do better with more than one approach we can arrange that in the same building.

Our Smithtown office sits on East Main Street with parking behind the building. It is the easiest of our four to reach from the Northern State and the Sunken Meadow Parkway.

Bring your card, we will do the rest

We accept The Empire Plan/NYSHIP, BlueCross BlueShield, Aetna, Cigna, Medicare and UnitedHealthcare for physical therapy, plus other plans that have out-of-network coverage. We run your benefits before the first session so you know your visit cost and how many visits your plan allows.

We handle the billing. You pay a co-insurance amount at the visit and we submit everything else.

Not every plan covers every service, and coverage depends on medical necessity. Some plans put us outside their network. If yours does, we still file the claim on your behalf and quote the cost before you commit.

Questions we get in Smithtown

Do I need a prescription to be seen in Smithtown?

No. In New York you can start without one. If your plan needs a referral on file, we have medical staff in every office who can handle it, and we check your benefits before your first visit so you know where you stand.

How long is a physical therapy visit?

The first visit runs about 45 minutes because the evaluation takes real time. Follow-ups are usually 30 to 45 minutes depending on what your plan needs.

How many visits will I need?

It depends on what is wrong and how long it has been going on. Most people have a clear sense within three or four visits of whether this is working. We set a checkpoint at the start so you are not left guessing.

Can I have acupuncture and physical therapy in the same week?

Yes, and a lot of people do. They are different tools. Physical therapy rebuilds capacity, acupuncture is often what makes the rehab tolerable in the early weeks. We coordinate both in house.

Where do I park at the Smithtown office?

Parking details, hours and directions are on the Smithtown office page. If you are not sure, call ahead and we will talk you in.
