Serving Setauket, Stony Brook, Port Jefferson and Old Field
Between the university, the hospital and a lot of desk work, the Three Village area brings us necks, low backs and repetitive strain more than anything else. Our East Setauket therapists sort out what is posture, what is strength and what needs a different plan entirely.
In New York you can start physical therapy without a doctor note. Call the office, describe what is going on, and we will book you an evaluation.
If a referral does turn out to be needed for your plan, we have medical staff in every office who can take care of it. You are not sent away to chase paperwork. We check your coverage before the first visit so the cost is never a surprise.
1
A real evaluation
Forty-five minutes with a licensed therapist. History, a movement screen and hands-on testing, so we can name what is driving the pain instead of guessing at it.
2
Treatment the same day
You leave having been treated and with two or three things to do at home. Not a printed sheet of twelve exercises you will never look at.
3
A plan with checkpoints
We agree what better looks like and when we reassess. If the plan is not moving you, we change it or send you to someone who can help.
Each of these has its own page explaining how we approach it and what the research supports.
Numbness, tingling or aching in the thumb, index and middle fingers, often worst at night.
See how we treat itBack pain lasting three months or more, often worse with sitting, driving, or standing too long.
See how we treat itKnee pain and stiffness from wear in the joint, usually worse after rest and with stairs or standing.
See how we treat itPersistent neck stiffness or pain, often with headaches or tightness across the shoulders.
See how we treat itSharp heel pain, worst on the first steps in the morning or after sitting.
See how we treat itPostural orthostatic tachycardia syndrome. Your heart races and you feel faint or wiped out when you stand up.
See how we treat itLeg pain from an irritated nerve root in the low back, often with pins and needles.
See how we treat itShoulder pain reaching overhead or behind you, often worse at night.
See how we treat itJaw pain, clicking, or tightness that makes chewing, talking, or opening wide uncomfortable.
See how we treat itYour evaluation and your follow-ups are with a licensed physical therapist, not handed off to an aide once the plan is written. Our East Setauket team works alongside the acupuncture and massage side of the practice, so if your case would do better with more than one approach we can arrange that in the same building.
Setauket and East Setauket are one area to the people who live here, so it does not matter which one you searched for. This is the office on North Belle Mead Road, a few minutes from Stony Brook.
We accept The Empire Plan/NYSHIP, BlueCross BlueShield, Aetna, Cigna, Medicare and UnitedHealthcare for physical therapy, plus other plans that have out-of-network coverage. We run your benefits before the first session so you know your visit cost and how many visits your plan allows.
We handle the billing. You pay a co-insurance amount at the visit and we submit everything else.
Not every plan covers every service, and coverage depends on medical necessity. Some plans put us outside their network. If yours does, we still file the claim on your behalf and quote the cost before you commit.
Plans we accept

No. In New York you can start without one. If your plan needs a referral on file, we have medical staff in every office who can handle it, and we check your benefits before your first visit so you know where you stand.
The first visit runs about 45 minutes because the evaluation takes real time. Follow-ups are usually 30 to 45 minutes depending on what your plan needs.
It depends on what is wrong and how long it has been going on. Most people have a clear sense within three or four visits of whether this is working. We set a checkpoint at the start so you are not left guessing.
Yes, and a lot of people do. They are different tools. Physical therapy rebuilds capacity, acupuncture is often what makes the rehab tolerable in the early weeks. We coordinate both in house.
Parking details, hours and directions are on the East Setauket office page. If you are not sure, call ahead and we will talk you in.
