Some patients want a non-drug option to add to what they already take for hay fever. Acupuncture is one, and we are upfront that the evidence here is thinner than for our pain conditions.
If you recognized yourself in more than one of those, that is enough to book. You do not need a diagnosis to come in, and you do not need a referral to start.
This one sits with our acupuncture team. Your plan is built by a licensed acupuncturist, and we bring in the rest of the practice only if you need it.
An addition to your existing allergy treatment, never a replacement. We would rather set that expectation now than have you stop something that works.

We work out the cause
A full history and a hands-on exam. We look at how you move, not only where it hurts, so the plan targets the thing driving the pain.

Treatment starts the same day
You are treated on the first visit in most cases. No waiting for a second appointment to begin.

We reassess as you go
We check progress at set points and adjust. If something is not working we change it or tell you honestly that we are not the right fit.
We accept The Empire Plan/NYSHIP, BlueCross BlueShield, Aetna, Cigna, Medicare and UnitedHealthcare, and other plans that have out-of-network coverage. We check your benefits before your first visit and tell you what you will owe, so nothing lands on you at the front desk.
We handle the billing. In most cases you pay a co-insurance amount at the visit and we take it from there.
Not every plan covers every service, and coverage depends on medical necessity. A few plans place us outside their network. When that happens we still file the claim for you and give you the cost in writing before you book.

The evidence here is thinner than for our pain conditions and we will not oversell it. The American Academy of Otolaryngology says clinicians may offer acupuncture to hay fever patients who want a non-drug option, and pooled studies suggest nasal symptoms and medication use may fall. Allergy specialists reviewing the same research in 2020 said they could not recommend for or against it. Acupuncture is not a substitute for your antihistamine, nasal steroid, or allergy shots. We would add it to what already works for you.

Wheezing, shortness of breath, chest tightness, facial swelling or difficulty swallowing is an emergency, not an allergy appointment. Persistent one-sided nasal blockage, bloody discharge, or loss of smell should be assessed by an ENT specialist. Do not stop or reduce antihistamines, nasal steroids, or allergy shots without speaking to the clinician who prescribed them.
