Treated at all four Suffolk County offices
Heel pain is one of the conditions where hands-on treatment and needling have the strongest guideline support of anything we do. We treat it at four Suffolk County offices.
If you recognized yourself in more than one of those, that is enough to book. You do not need a diagnosis to come in, and you do not need a referral to start.
Most people do best on a combination. Your first visit sorts out which of these you actually need, and in what order.
Manual therapy and specific plantar fascia and calf stretching carry the guideline's strongest grade for this. Taping is also well supported for short-term relief while the rest takes effect.
Guideline supported at grade B for trigger points in the calf and foot muscles, with benefit reported for both short and long term pain and function. This is unusually strong support.
Soft tissue work through the calf, used alongside the loading program rather than on its own.
1
We work out the cause
A full history and a hands-on exam. We look at how you move, not only where it hurts, so the plan targets the thing driving the pain.
2
Treatment starts the same day
You are treated on the first visit in most cases. No waiting for a second appointment to begin.
3
We reassess as you go
We check progress at set points and adjust. If something is not working we change it or tell you honestly that we are not the right fit.
We accept The Empire Plan/NYSHIP, BlueCross BlueShield, Aetna, Cigna, Medicare and UnitedHealthcare, and other plans that have out-of-network coverage. We check your benefits before your first visit and tell you what you will owe, so nothing lands on you at the front desk.
We handle the billing. In most cases you pay a co-insurance amount at the visit and we take it from there.
Not every plan covers every service, and coverage depends on medical necessity. A few plans place us outside their network. When that happens we still file the claim for you and give you the cost in writing before you book.

The 2023 physical therapy clinical practice guideline gives its strongest grade to manual therapy and to plantar fascia and calf stretching for heel pain, and a grade B recommendation to dry needling of trigger points in the calf and foot muscles. Foot taping is also strongly supported for short-term relief. The guideline makes no recommendation on acupuncture for this, so we do not claim one. Most people need several weeks of consistent loading and stretching before the change is clear.

Heel pain after a sudden pop with weakness pushing off, numbness or burning suggesting a nerve problem, heel pain with fever, redness or swelling, or heel pain in both feet in a younger adult with morning stiffness and back pain should be assessed medically first. If you have diabetes or reduced sensation in your feet, tell us before we start.
With most plans you pay your co-insurance. We check benefits before the first visit.
Not as a standalone fix. The guideline actually recommends against orthoses on their own for short-term relief. They can help alongside the rest.
No, and neither can anyone else without surgery. Spurs often show up in people with no pain at all, so the spur is usually not the problem.
Several weeks of consistent work, not a couple of visits. We will be upfront about that at the start.
